Crosshatch is a fun and challenging game of strategic territory control with the ultimate goal of creating an unbreakable Cross formation.
Rules:
Each player draws a hand of 5 tiles from your “Pile” with numbers ranging from 1 to 8.
When it is your turn, you may only play a tile on an open space if there are no other tiles next to it or there is a tile of the same number or a number that is plus or minus 1 from your tile’s number next to it (diagonals do not count).
Example: A 2 may be played in an open space next to a tile that is a 1, 2, or 3 only.
If your hand contains a pair of tiles of the same number they may be played together but only when taking over an opponents tile (otherwise they can be played separately like normal). The first tile is placed on an opponent’s tile of the same, or plus/minus 1 in number and the opponent’s tile then goes into the “Junk” pile and your tile then controls that space. The second tile of your pair is then placed on the board following the same rules of a normal tile placement as outlined above. This is especially important in “Breaking” your opponent’s Cross.
The game ends when only one player has created a Cross and the opponent cannot “Break” it. If both players have a single Cross the game will continue until one of them has been “Broken” or one player can create a second, independent cross that cannot be “Broken” or matched. Each cross is only counted as an individual cross when it can be considered a Cross without sharing any tiles with another cross.
A “draw” game occurs when neither player successfully creates a Cross or there is a tie in the number of Crosses created and there are either no more available spaces or neither player is able to play a tile.
enjoy!
